Re: A Dreaded List of Questions Thread

cultures and religion: Q: Why do Rhuidim speak Nuum? A: Likely because Rhun was originally a Nuumic Old Gods traditionalist. I'd say the Rhuidim technically have their own dialect at least, but mechanically having it the same as Nuum makes an amount of sense. Q: Do the Nuum use druidry? A: Anyone c...

Re: Cache of questions

A GM pointed me here, so I'll do my best to shed some light: 1. Are there settlements, around the lands that aren't hamlets but just a collection of homes that are isolated? There are bound to be a few little homes or tiny solitary communities tucked away out there in places that have gone unnoticed...

Re: Briar's List of Probably Dumb Game Questions

Elemancy works the classical elements of fire, earth, air, and water. Sorcery has to do with cold goopy inky-black stuff. Thaumaturgy is warm glowy golden light that gives you warm fuzzies (unless you're tainted, in which case it burns like the dickens). Druidry primarily has to do with plants and a...

Briar has had a glimpse of the future, when the Hillfolk of Karnath have risen up to take over all of Arad and renamed it Kharad.

Re: Religious Text and Artifacts

Lord Hermit Pssst, that D is supposed to be an E. And now a fun fact: Monks and Templar aren't particularly religious in the typical sense. While they're affiliated with the confusingly-named Church of Light, said Church is more about espousing the general philosophies of compassion, charity, self-...

Regarding Wyrvardn and the "Knight" term

(This seems to come up somewhat frequently, so I'm posting this right here in the Wyrvardn boards so it can be easily found and referenced in the future.) Unofficially, anyone can call themselves a "knight" and most people will get what they mean: a warrior who gets all armored up and probably fight...

About those Faewyr

Hey look, the Faewyr have the beginnings of a real wiki article now: https://clok.contrarium.net/index.php?title=Faewyr It's lacking a lot still, particularly in history/mythology which I really want to add but haven't gotten all smoothed out on paper yet. I'll run any updates by Jirato and post if ...

Re: Sorcery manipulation

I'll give an overall point of advice about all channeling first, and say that if you don't have an ability that specifically says you can do a particular thing, then it's likely you can't do that particular thing. This applies to all types of channeling, not just sorcery. Channeling in this world is...

Fun fact: Some may recall that one of the charmseeking (trick-or-treating) items you can get at Octum is a tiny iron pyramid. This has been a thing since the very first CLOK Octum in days of yore!

Re: Carved haft termination

Noctere wrote: woodworkers are encouraged to supply carved staves for blacksmiths instead.
Does that mean that woodworkers just make a "stave" item now instead of a specific type of haft, and the stave works as a wooden haft for any weapon head so the old specific-type hafts are obsolete?

Re: Making arrowheads out of softer metals

we should remove larger softer metal hilts and definitely all hafts (a silver or gold flail haft would be bent in no time and more useless than a silver or gold arrowhead) and we should make lead shot un-reusable. Most arrows should break upon use anyway, if not the head, then the shaft. Nails: har...

Re: Shadgard blacksmith pricing tweak

(Speaking to the original intent.) IC reason: Iron isn't found in the Shadgard region, so it's mostly imported from Mistral Lake, where iron is abundant. Mistral Lake exporters, caravan traders, and Shadgardian merchants all take advantage of this, so prices for iron goods are pretty crazy high in S...

Re: Telepathy and you (Feature Request)

It seems to be an issue specific with words; the targeting syntax works for copies in anything else--elemancy and melee combat--and targeting or re-targeting with the words seemed to work, but only when they were not the same creature. If there is a hound and a laborer, then she was capable of slee...

Re: Telepathy and you (Feature Request)

While the syntax definitely needs to be updated to allow for more intuitively targeting others, Sneaky is correct: You can first enter TARGET 2 CARRIER, then CAST WONDER and it will target the second carrier instead of the first, since you previously established the second as your default target wit...

Re: Monks under review

Recap of suggestions to try and bring things back on track: - Some kind of "Zen Dodge": Add a percentage of a monk's Thaumaturgy to their dodge rolls. Doesn't work on Tactics Offense. Extra effective when actively channeling thaumaturgy. This means Monks don't have to go out into constant convention...

Re: Monks under review

Regarding comments on clothes: Monks aren't required in any way to wear robes, though they're sort of the default identifying monk vestment. Monks are generally free to wear what they're comfortable wearing. The guideline simply states: "Keep your clothing and your equipment modest. Opt for utility ...

Re: Monks under review

I always expected Monks to be a relatively less-attractive class to play. That was always part of the point. It's pretty rare to have people come into a game like this and say "I want to play a character that can't be a warrior and is discouraged from hoarding and outwardly displaying signs of wealt...

Re: Monks under review

I agree, more community togetherness would be fantastic. Both that and the ability to enjoy the game when numbers are low and people are doing their own thing are important pieces to overall gameplay enjoyment. From my perspective, monks already have some very good stuff to bring to the table in gro...

Re: Monks under review

We should also ask 'What would you interact with a monk over?' I agree, but let's also try to give monks things to do that don't require them to have someone else being there with them. They're supposed to be helpers and supporters for sure, but there are also plenty of times when everyone else is ...
